I'm a web developer and an active member of the Drupal community.  I run a small Drupal Development shop , and the hosts recommended on this site are the hosts we recommend to our own clients.  As such, Drupal performance is all I really care about when it comes to a shared host.  If you need a general review site for whatever other needs you may have, there are hundreds of generic hosting review sites available to you.  I only care about how well Drupal works on a host.  

Most shared hosts run static sites fine, but Drupal is more demanding than your typical website.  Drupal is a complex framework , and utilizes hundreds of files and hundreds of database calls for every page view.  A web host that seems blazing fast for a plain old HTML page, or even a moderately complex PHP page may seem to crawl along once you load up a Drupal site.

That's why I've jumped around to so many hosts.  I've been searching for the "Holy Grail" of shared Drupal hosts.  Most just aren't optimized for Drupal, though we're seeing more and more hosts catering to the Drupal community.   In the end, any shared host will not give you 100% reliability or 100% consistent performance.  While none are perfect,  some are certainly better than others, and that's all I aim to convey through this site.
