PRICE: $2.95/mo "Starter Package", $5.95/mo "Unlimited Package"

-- These guys now offer toll free phone support, a free domain and cheaper unlimited package pricing.  I now recommend them over JustHost.

I've hosted a lot of sites with MidPhase (and their sister brand, ANHosting), and used to recommend them to my clients almost exclusively.   Midphase had previously not offered a free domain and didn't have phone support, but they've changed that now, making them a much more competitive option for Drupal hosting.  Overall, MidPhase has been good to me and to the majority of my clients, but on occasion, i'd see a speed issue on a slow server.  Those issues were in 2008, while they were upgrading many of their servers to newer 8 core machines, and ever since the migrations have been done, i haven't seen any speed issues to speak of ! Even during the migrations, when I'd experience periodic performance issues, MidPhase has always been willing to migrate accounts to a newer / faster server if Drupal performance became a chronic issue for a given account.  Generally, I'd say their servers feel faster than most shared hosts out there, and they've always had really high throughput (ie: files download fast from their servers).

Pros:

  • Reasonably Cheap
  • Responsive ticket-based support (+ phone support now!)
  • Servers seem faster than most
  • Very well established as a hosting company
  • Customer service seems to genuinely want to help
  • cPanel "Service Status" enabled (so you can see your server's load / usage etc)

Cons:

  • "Starter Package" is only good for 1 domain & 1 database
  • "Unlimited" bandwidth claims seem more flexible than most
Bandwidth Support Control Panel Free Domain? Max allowed domains Performance
Unlimited Email/Phone cPanel Yes Unlimited (1 for starter) Good

Bottom Line:
If you want to know the load your server is under, value above-average performance and don't need phone support, these guys might be a fit.
